Why Is Selling Your Unwanted Mobiles A Good Idea?

Did you hear that you could earn cash from selling used mobile phones? Yes, it is the ‘in’ thing at the moment. However, don’t get too happy about it yet. First, selling your used phones will not necessarily bring you a lot of cash. Unless, of course, if you have hundreds of them stored away somewhere.

So, why is selling mobile phones become so popular these days? With millions of people changing their mobile phone every 18 months on average, the number of fully working, yet unused phones had dramatically increased. Many people, especially environmentalist are concerned about all of this. Phones are ending up in landfills, endangering the planet when they can still be re-used and those that are broken beyond repair can be recycled.

However, many people don’t know how to recycle their mobile phones and I suppose, many don’t really want to just throw them away knowing that they are still useful, but did not really know what to do with it. So, someone, somewhere had come up with a wonderful idea of buying used phones, re-condition them then selling them to people in developing countries that can’t afford the latest gadget.

So, is selling used mobile phones a good idea? Yes, it is, but don’t expect to get rich, unless of course you are one of those entrepreneurs who know how to refurbish them and sell them for a profit.

What are the benefits of selling used mobile phones?

First, you get rid of unwanted mobile phones you are not using that are just weighing your drawer. Do you know that there were over five hundred million un-used phones lying around? This is just in the USA. In 2010, Consumer focus survey revealed that there are about eight five million unused phones in lying around in UK homes. That is a lot of unwanted phones that can still have a new lease of life.

Second, you help the environment. Mobile phones have very harmful chemicals, and if they are just thrown or dumped away without removing those chemical, they can poison the land and make it unproductive. Another possible danger is the leaking of cadmium from old batteries. Old mobile phone batteries have cadmium, which is extremely toxic. It small amount of cadmium can poison a vast body of water and soil. Plants can still grow on the soil but they will be contaminated and if ingested can cause renal damage can be fatal.

Third, when you are selling old mobile phones, you are also giving people in developing country the chance to communicate easily.

Finally, the last and directly benefits you, is that you get money from it. It’s not a lot but as one supermarket says: every little helps.
